Circle Skirts Made Easy
by Nadiyah

Required:
At least five yards of material, depending on how full the circle is to be
Matching thread
3/4" Elastic, legnth depends on personal measurements
Beaded or fringed trim (optional)

Fold the material into quarters.  Cut in the same method as shown by the dashes in the diagram:
The smaller cut area will be the waistline.  The longer cut portion will be the sides.  Sew the sides together.

Option A
Fold the waist line over by 1/4" and iron or stitch into place.  Fold again 7/8" and stitch, leaving an opening to insert elastic. Attach a safety pin to the elastic and feed through the waistline.  Sew elastic ends together.  Stitch over opening in material.

Fold the hem line over by 1/4" and iron or stitch into place. Fold a second time and stitch for a smooth, non-frayed hem.
Dress the skirt up with a hip scarf, fancy trim attached to the hem, and/or sequinned patches.

Option B
Loosely stitch the waistline 1/4" from the edge.  Pull on thread to gather the material until it reaches the desired waistline size that fits over the hips.  Cutout a strip of material 2" X 36" (more or less depending on personal measurements).  Fold in half with right sides out and iron.  Sandwich beaded or fringed trim between right sides of gathered edge and casing.  Sew together with 1/4" seam allowance.  Attach a safety pin to the elastic and feed through the casing.  Sew elastic ends together.  Slip stitch casing ends together.

Fold the hem line over by 1/4" and iron or stitch into place. Fold a second time and stitch on upper edge for a smooth, non-frayed hem.  Dress the skirt up with fancy trim attached to the hem and/or sequinned patches.  Some dancers even layer a hip scarf over long, fringed trim.
